A Year-Round, Community-Based Day Treatment Program
for Delinquent Male Youth

Program Objective:

To reduce further involvement of youth in the juvenile justice system. To help youth be accountable for their actions, develop victim empathy and take greater responsibility for the quality of life in their community. To develop measurable competencies that help youth to become more responsible and productive members of their communities.

Program Highlights:

  • Located in Center City Philadelphia, near all major transportation routes (tokens provided for public transportation)
     
  • Operates year-round, Monday through Friday
     
  • Offers the following educational services:
     
    • Traditional High School Diploma Program
       
    • Special Education
       
    • GED Mastery Preparation
       
    • Food Services Vocational Training
       
  • Average length of the program is one year (varies according to program track)
     
  • Past recipient of the Pennsylvania Juvenile Court Judges' Commission Community-Based Program of the Year award
     
  • Educational program accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
     
  • Nutritional development program, includes breakfast and lunch

General Components of Treatment:

  • Individualized educational placement and treatment planning, based on previous academic experience, levels of achievement, credits earned and social service needs
     
  • Small class size; teacher to student ratio is 1:10
     
  • Comprehensive social work services to youth and family
     
  • Individual, group and family counseling
     
  • Community service program
     
  • Activities program that provides opportunities for participation in intramural sports, interscholastic sports, cultural activities and entertainment
     
  • School-to-School and School-to-Work Transition Programs

Admission Criteria:

  • Male youth, ages 14-18 years
     
  • Youth must be adjudicated delinquent
     
  • Full scale IQ of 70 or above, minimum of 3rd grade reading level
     
  • Youth must be able to fully participate in treatment, without severe restrictions from physical activity (medical clearance may be required)
     
  • Youth with a history of abusive behaviors, serious sexual offenses, fire setting or severe emotional, psychological or psychiatric disorders will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
     
  • Youth must have a parent or guardian who is willing to participate as a member of the treatment team in both the residential and community-based phases of the program
